How to Protect Your Goods from Humidity
Living in areas with high humidity poses a major problem for manufacturers and distributors. If you’re in the pharmaceutical or food business, you need to look after the humidity and moisture levels of your products during and after the manufacturing process.
Luckily, there are many ways to protect your products from humidity, both indoors and outdoors, like using desiccants. Here are some tips for protecting your products from humidity.
Select A Seal
Sealing your product with an airtight vacuum seal is one of the best ways to keep your products dry. A quality bubble pack packaging machine is your best bet for long-lasting vacuuming and sealing.
Use Water-Absorbing Materials
Water-absorbing materials like polypropylene or polyethylene are used mainly for packaging products with small weight but high moisture content. These materials are perfect for foods with high water content, such as fruits or vegetables.
Use Desiccants
Desiccants are small, porous materials that have openings at either end. The materials absorb moisture and release it as vapor when the temperature increases above 100 degrees Celsius (212 degrees Fahrenheit). This process releases heat into the surrounding area, which helps to dry out their surroundings.
Some common desiccant materials include silica gel and molecular sieves.
Silica Gel
Silica gel, one of the most common desiccants, is made up of particles of powdered silicon dioxide. It has a very strong attraction to water molecules, so it acts like a sponge that soaks up any water vapor in the air. Its affinity for water is far stronger than the attraction it has for oxygen. This is why silica gel needs to be packaged in an airtight environment or container to be effective as a drying agent. It can adsorb up to 40 percent of its weight in water while maintaining its pore structure.
Molecular Sieve
It is aluminosilicate whose 3D structure allows it to absorb the water vapors in the air. It’s mostly used in pharma products to keep the medicines dry. Molecular sieve is one of the most expensive desiccants with very high absorption rates and provides excellent functionality in high temperatures.
If your company is looking for top-quality absorbents and desiccants to protect your goods from humidity, then we’re here for you.
