Desiccants have a great affinity for water molecule. Describing about their structure, they have number of micro pores wherein fits the water molecule. The word adsorption is used here as this desiccant can lose the water molecule at high temperature, letting them to regenerate for further use. Desiccants come in various forms ie. Silica gel, molecular sieves, montmorillonite clay. Depending upon the nature of product, its use, storage & selection of desiccant depends. DMF grade desiccants packed in tyvek material complies MILD 3464e. Pillow paks are available in sizes ranging from 0.25gm to 14gm. Higher sizes known as unit paks range from 1/6 unit to 80 unit. For high automation desiccant pillow paks are available in roll form. A customized combination of desiccant is also possible depending upon the application.

Major types of desiccants:
Montmorillonite Clay: Montmorillonite clay is a natural occurring adsorbent. This clay will successfully regenerate for repeated use at very low temperatures without substantial deterioration or swelling. Clay is inexpensive and highly effective within normal temperature and relative humidity ranges.
Silica Gel: Silica gel is form of silica manufactured from sodium silicate and sulfuric acid. Like Clay, it is non-hazardous and capable of adsorbing 40% of its weight in water vapor at 100% humidity. Silica gel has a highly porous molecular structure which leads to its highest capacity for moisture adsorption amongst any commercial desiccant.
Molecular Sieve: A manufactured crystalline version of zeolite containing a network of uniform pores and empty cavities. Molecular sieve is derived from sodium potassium and calcium alumina silicate. Molecular sieve is the most aggressive and expensive of the primary desiccant.
Carbon: Although carbon does not absorb moisture. It is commonly packaged for use as an odor remover. Carbon can be blended with desiccants to provide protection against odor and moisture in the same package.
