Molecular sieves are working on the principle of adsorption that is the process of attraction of molecules from a stream of gas or liquid to an exposed surface area of molecular sieve. The adsorption process of molecular sieve involves chemisorption and capillary condensation. Molecular sieve 5a is a calcium form of alkali alumina silicate with having an effective pore diameter of 5A°. It will adsorb all the molecule having a kinetic diameter of less than 5 angstrom and will exclude higher than that. A molecule which will be adsorbed by 3a and 4a will also be adsorbed by 5a. It will be the most suitable zeolite for PSA adsorption technology. It offers tremendously effective adsorbent with contact surface and large porosity.
5a molecular sieve will contribute larger surface area for better adsorption efficacy with required bulk density and appropriate crushing strength for lowering the dusting in systems.
